Synopsis
You are trapped in the desolate, light-starved halls of the Asylum, hunted relentlessly by a single, terrifying monster.
Your objective is simple: Find the single hidden key and escape through the main entrance.
Core Mechanics
Your mental state is the true enemy. Darkness, stress, and glimpses of the monster will drain your Sanity Meter.
- Effects: Low sanity triggers intense visual distortion (Chromatic Aberration, Lens Distortion) and auditory paranoia (heartbeat, whispers).
- Recovery: Sanity only regenerates by remaining stationary in safe, well-lit areas.
You start the game with exactly seven rounds of ammunition—there is no resupply.

Asylum Escape was created in Unity 6.2 for the UCF GDK/GPK Rendering Game Jam
Game Jam Constraint: Custom Visual Effects
The Jam require a custom visual effect, which I fulfilled through two systems:
- Sanity Post-Processing: The central visual feature. The Sanity Meter drives a complex, smoothly interpolated stack of effects (Vignette, Chromatic Aberration, Desaturation) that visually breaks down the world.
- Custom Muzzle Flash: I created a particle effect for the rifle. This provides satisfying feedback, with brief flash of light in the darkness.
Monster AI (4-State System)
The monster uses a persistent 4-state AI:
- PATROL: Default state, following predefined waypoints.
- HUNT: Triggered by sight or sound; moves quickly to my last known position.
- SEARCH: Activated if I evade its line-of-sight; the monster investigates the area before resuming patrol.
- FLEE: Triggered when shot, the creature retreats to its Nest to regroup.
